So to make amends for the lack of intellectual content I'll provide some pseudo-pretty pictures of my WIP armies. After all the crazy of next week I'll be back with a double-whammy of articles. Here goes!
My Chaos Spawn 1 WIP.
I've always had a huge problem with spawns from games workshop in that they look to concise, organized and pretty much the same even with all the choices on the models. So I decided to sculpt up some of my own.
Here is a much more recent picture of him after some more painting.
Spawn #2. You can actually see more of the early sculpting. I used a clipped up coat-hanger for the skeleton of beastly number 2. I built up the body from there, a wing here, some tentacles here, some split skin and more chaotic growths.
Spawn #3 has gotten a little bit further and was at the end of my bits kit. I have since given him a big shaggy mane as well. His inspiration was mainly drawn from slugs and such.
Here's my Hell-brute. Isn't he a swell guy? Still Have a lot of work to do on the details, basing and flesh tones, but when you're painting 4 armies you make them table top ready and move from there. I still cannot praise GW enough for the level of detail they put out in a starter kit. It blows my mind.
Next on my list of chaosy goodness are some of my nurgly marines. They're conversions based off of DV models and possessed marines. I've always had a problem with how cookie-cutter chaos space marines are. If they're just hanging out in the warp they should all be a bit mutated right? I have only 20 marines at this point but I've converted 5 of them to switch between Footsloggers and Raptors. These guys are maybe about halfway done.
Here is my Forge-fiend that is about halfway done as well. He is completely magnetized and can be used as a mauler fiend. I don't find them to be particularly useful for my play-style though as they are usually viewed as suicide chargers. Maybe when I have 3 they'd get more use . . . . We'll see.
Here's my defiler. I don't understand why they have such a bad rap. They're the swiss army knife of my army, with a dirge caster they're great for area denial, the cannon is great for punching huge holes into horde armies, the autocannon is the icing on the cake. The model itself is the only thing I don't like as the torso is situated far up on the body. I pushed his torso to the middle and made some tentacles appear. I have found this keeps him much more stable on the table and makes sense from a real world approach to balance.
Here are some of my other WIP armies/models
My Tyranids are slowly getting there. Considering they're the first army I started way back in 2/3rd edition they'll always have a place on my table.
The termagaunt here shows the main gist of my paint scheme for my tyranids. A red white and blue base with some tan and brown for shading and base. I find the use of brown keeps in with the organic feel whereas basing in black helps to create a mechanical feel.
I remember when they first released this model and I was upset that they moved away from my favorite styled hunched model but over time the style of the model grew on me. Since they released the new hunched over model I will probably take one for a flyrant or walking swarmlord now that we have deep strike capability again.
Before the tervigon had a model these conversions were all over the place. I do my part as a collector and gamer to rescue pieces off of ebay. This guy was too cheap and a decent enough conversion to pass up.
One of my favorite models and the hook that got me into 40K. I have 3 of these that were rescued from ebay. With the choice of 3 in a brood these guys have been an amazing battering ram and fire sink. My girlfriend normally plays my tyranids and every battle they've lived up to the famed "distraction carnifex" moniker.
My Blood Angels successor chapter. Their fluff was great for me ( a tiny breakdown ) : They're a crusading chapter that is looking for a cure to the red thirst and the black rage. They have very close ties to the mechanicus and lobotomize their death company. They have a contingent of Dark Angels that travel with them as they're always entering territory that could hold the fallen. The two are naturally distrustful and secretive towards the other.
I plan to expand the army with Militarum Tempestus and Inquisition. But here are some servitors and a menial.
Thanks for taking a look and stay tuned for my double feature in the coming weeks.
